About ArcaneTrace

The ArcaneTrace headquarters with its distinctive runic architecture

Our Story

The founding moment of ArcaneTrace during an expedition

ArcaneTrace began in 2007 when Dr. Eleanor Blackwood, a linguistics professor specializing in ancient writing systems, discovered a peculiar set of symbols in a remote cave system in northern Norway. Unlike anything documented in archaeological records, these symbols appeared to shift and change when viewed from different angles, suggesting properties beyond conventional understanding.

Intrigued by this discovery, Dr. Blackwood assembled a diverse team of academics, researchers, and enthusiasts who shared her fascination with the mystical and unexplained. What began as an informal research group quickly evolved into a dedicated organization as they uncovered similar phenomena worldwide – symbols, structures, and accounts that hinted at connections between our world and others.

By 2012, ArcaneTrace had established its first physical headquarters in Edinburgh, before relocating to our current location in Edmonton in 2018. Over the years, we've expanded from a small collective focused on runic systems to a comprehensive research institute documenting all aspects of interdimensional phenomena, magical systems, and the cultural narratives surrounding them.

Today, we're proud to maintain the world's most extensive database of mystical knowledge, serving researchers, creative professionals, and curious minds alike. Our commitment to rigorous documentation combined with an open mind toward the inexplicable has established us as the premier resource for those seeking to understand the boundaries between worlds.

Mission & Values

Our Mission

To document, preserve, and share knowledge of mystical realms, runic systems, and interdimensional pathways through rigorous research and accessible education. We strive to bridge the gap between academic understanding and cultural appreciation of mankind's relationship with the arcane.

Scholarly Integrity

We maintain the highest standards of research methodology, clearly distinguishing between documented evidence, theoretical constructs, and cultural narratives. Our work acknowledges the limitations of current understanding while pushing boundaries responsibly.

Cultural Respect

We approach the mystical traditions of all cultures with profound respect, acknowledging their significance to the communities that maintain them. Our documentation efforts prioritize ethical engagement with source communities and proper attribution.

Interdisciplinary Approach

We believe that understanding the arcane requires insights from multiple fields: anthropology, linguistics, art history, theoretical physics, and more. Our work actively breaks down boundaries between disciplines to create more comprehensive knowledge.

Knowledge Accessibility

While maintaining scholarly rigor, we strive to make our findings accessible to diverse audiences. We believe that mystical knowledge belongs to humanity collectively and should be available to all who seek it, presented in appropriate contexts.

Our Team of Arcane Scholars

Dr. Eleanor Blackwood, Founder and Lead Researcher

Dr. Eleanor Blackwood

Founder & Lead Runic Specialist

With three decades of experience in comparative linguistics and ancient writing systems, Dr. Blackwood leads our runic research division. Her groundbreaking work on dimensional correspondence patterns in symbolic systems has revolutionized how we understand written magic across cultures.

Professor Rajan Mehta, Portal Cartography Director

Professor Rajan Mehta

Portal Cartography Director

Combining backgrounds in theoretical physics and cultural anthropology, Professor Mehta specializes in mapping reported interdimensional pathways. His innovative modeling system has created the first coherent framework for understanding how different cultural accounts of portals may reference the same metaphysical phenomena.

Dr. Lydia Chen, Mythological Systems Analyst

Dr. Lydia Chen

Mythological Systems Analyst

Specializing in comparative mythology and folklore studies, Dr. Chen identifies patterns in cultural narratives about otherworldly realms. Her database of recurring motifs across seemingly unconnected traditions has become an essential tool for understanding how humans conceptualize the multiverse.

Our Achievements

Since our founding, ArcaneTrace has made significant contributions to the understanding and preservation of mystical knowledge. Here are some of our proudest accomplishments:

01

The Unified Runic Concordance

Our team has documented over 7,000 unique runic symbols from 43 different cultural traditions, creating the most comprehensive cross-referenced database of symbolic languages in existence. This work has identified surprising connections between writing systems separated by vast distances and time periods.

02

The Global Portal Mapping Project

We've cataloged more than 500 locations worldwide that feature in cultural narratives as gateways between realms. Our detailed documentation includes astronomical alignments, geological features, and ethnographic accounts associated with each site, creating the first comprehensive atlas of reported interdimensional thresholds.

03

The Digital Grimoire Initiative

Our team has successfully digitized over 300 rare manuscripts detailing magical systems from around the world, many of which were at risk of being lost forever. These documents are now preserved in multiple formats and made accessible to qualified researchers while respecting cultural sensitivities.

04

The Interdimensional Linguistics Symposium

Since 2015, we've hosted the annual Interdimensional Linguistics Symposium, bringing together scholars from diverse fields to share research on communication systems that purportedly bridge worlds. This event has fostered unprecedented collaboration between previously isolated academic communities.

05

Educational Outreach Programs

Our workshops and online courses have introduced over 25,000 students to the fundamentals of runic systems, portal theories, and comparative mythology. By translating complex research into accessible formats, we're ensuring that arcane knowledge remains relevant in the modern world.

What Scholars Say About Us

"ArcaneTrace's methodical approach to documenting mystical phenomena sets a new standard for the field. Their willingness to engage with both the measurable evidence and the cultural significance of arcane traditions creates a uniquely valuable resource for scholars across disciplines."
